About

Ateneo Alumni Northeast, Inc (AANI) is the latest active Ateneo alumni association in the New York Tri-State area. There have been Ateneo alumni groups in the past, some legally organized, while others were informal groups of friends from the Ateneo. After several dormant years in the 90’s, sometime in June 2002, a renewed calling to organize began. It was held in the old Philippine National Bank (PNB) lobby, attended by approximately 50+ alumni of various Grade School, High School and College batches.

We started by organizing ourselves into decade-groups (i.e. Batch 60’s, Batch 70’s, etc.) and each had at least 2-3 “decade reps.” These representatives met on monthly basis that informally led to the formation of a “Core Group”. The majority of the original Core Group members are still active today. The concept of a Core Group stems from understanding that all Ateneans in the area are not able to attend the regular meetings. However, a small, but committed number may act as a council of sorts—handling all the necessary matters to keep the association going. We were legally incorporated in 2004.

When the Core group started conceptualizing the “new” alumni association, we determined that we would be a Project Leader-driven association, not a President–led association. We start each year by having a planning session to map out the various projects we would like to have, with each project having a different project manager, thus avoiding the “burnout” often felt by one voluntary leader handling several different events in a span of one year. We also try to recruit from ranks of the new graduates or the “young alumni group” in the hope that the younger set will somehow inherit this organization. Furthermore, we attempt to utilize the tools which none of the previous alumni groups ever had: emails, eGroups, an official website, and other networking websites to make our own mark in the New York Tri-state area.

Membership of the Core Group is not exclusive. It is open to any Ateneo alumni of any age who would be willing to assist the current membership in planning and providing logistics for any current and future events.
